1. What Tamibid suspension is and what it is used for
Tamibid suspension contains oseltamivir, an antiviral medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. It works by stopping influenza (flu) viruses from spreading in the body.
Tamibid suspension is used:
- To treat influenza (flu) infection.
- In children aged 6 to 12 months during a pandemic influenza outbreak when prescribed by a healthcare professional.
For best results, treatment should be started within 48 hours of the first flu symptoms.
Tamibid suspension is not a substitute for annual influenza vaccination.
2. What you need to know before taking Tamibid suspension
Do not take Tamibid suspension
- If you are allergic to oseltamivir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking Tamibid suspension if you or your child:
- Have kidney problems.
- Have severe liver disease.
- Have chronic heart disease or breathing problems.
- Have a weakened immune system.
- Experience unusual behavior, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, or other changes in mental status. These events have been reported particularly in children and adolescents with influenza.
Tamibid suspension works only against influenza viruses and does not treat other infections.
Other medicines and Tamibid suspension
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Particular caution may be needed with:
- Probenecid
- Methotrexate
- Chlorpropamide
- Phenylbutazone
No significant interactions have been observed with paracetamol, aspirin, antacids, amoxicillin, rimantadine, or warfarin.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
Tamibid suspension may be used during pregnancy if your doctor considers it necessary. Small amounts may pass into breast milk. Your doctor will decide whether Tamibid suspension is appropriate during breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
Tamibid suspension has no known effect on the ability to drive or use machines.
3. How to take Tamibid suspension
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

The recommended dose is 3 mg/kg twice daily for 5 days.
How to prepare the suspension
- Tap the bottle several times to loosen the powder.
- Add boiled and cooled water.
- Fill with water up to the ring mark on the bottle.
- Close the bottle tightly.
- Shake well until a uniform suspension is formed.
Tamibid suspension may be taken with or without food. Taking it with food may reduce stomach upset.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Serious side effects
Stop taking Tamibid suspension and seek medical attention immediately if you notice:
- Severe allergic reactions.
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis.
- Unusual behavior, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, or self-injury thoughts.

- Fever

- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Visual disturbances
- Cardiac rhythm disorders
- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
- Severe skin reactions
- Anaphylactic reactions
