1. What Mezodol 100 Suspension is and what it is used for

Mezodol 100 Suspension contains mefenamic acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

It is used for:

  • Relief of pain (muscular, dental, headache, post-operative pain)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Fever in children

Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea)

2. What you need to know before you take Mezodol 100 Suspension

Do not take this medicine if:

  • You are allergic to mefenamic acid or any ingredients
  • You have had asthma, rash, or allergic reaction with aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • You have stomach ulcers or bleeding
  • You have severe heart, liver, or kidney problems
  • You are in the last 3 months of pregnancy

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor before use if:

  • You have stomach problems or bleeding risk
  • You have asthma
  • You have heart, kidney, or liver problems
  • You are elderly
  • You have high blood pressure or diabetes

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

Other medicines and Mezodol

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)
  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Steroids
  • Antidepressants (SSRIs)
  • Blood pressure medicines or diuretics
  • Lithium or methotrexate

Pregnancy

  • Do not take this medicine during the last 3 months of pregnancy.
  • During the first and second trimesters, use only if clearly necessary and advised by your doctor.
  • This medicine may affect the unborn baby or delay labour and increase the risk of bleeding.
  • From 20 weeks of pregnancy, it may cause kidney problems in the unborn baby leading to low amniotic fluid.

Breast-feeding (Lactation)

  • Small amounts of this medicine may pass into breast milk.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are breast-feeding, unless advised by your doctor.

Driving and using machines

This medicine may cause:

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Visual disturbances

Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

3. How to take Mezodol 100 Suspension

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Recommended doses (children):

  • Over 6 months: 25 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses

Typical doses:

  • 6 months–2 years: 2.5 ml
  • 2–5 years: 5 ml
  • 5–9 years: 7.5 ml
  • 9–12 years: 10 ml
  • Take after food
  • Shake well before use
  • Do not use for more than 7 days unless advised

If you take more Mezodol than you should

Contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Drowsiness or convulsions

If you forget to take a dose

  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
  • If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

4. Possible side effects

Common:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Stomach pain

Serious side effects (seek medical help immediately):

  • Stomach bleeding (blood in stool or vomit)
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)
  • Severe skin reactions
  • Liver or kidney problems

Other possible effects:

  • Headache, dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • High blood pressure
  • Skin rash or itching

5. How to store Mezodol 100 Suspension

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Store as per label instructions
  • Do not use after expiry date
