1. What Glazenta is and what it is used for

Glazenta contains deflazacort, a corticosteroid medicine.

It works by:

  • Reducing inflammation
  • Suppressing the immune system

It is used to treat:

  • Severe asthma
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Other conditions where steroid treatment is required

2. What you need to know before you take Glazenta

Do not take Glazenta if:

  • You are allergic to deflazacort or any ingredients
  • You have untreated infections
  • You are receiving live vaccines

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have:

  • Liver or kidney problems
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure or heart disease
  • Stomach ulcers or digestive disorders
  • Osteoporosis (weak bones)
  • Mental health conditions
  • Tuberculosis or infections

Important:

  • Do not stop this medicine suddenly
  • Long-term use may suppress your adrenal glands
  • You may be more prone to infections

Infections

  • Avoid contact with chickenpox or measles
  • Seek immediate medical help if exposed
  • Signs of infection may be hidden

Other medicines and Glazenta

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin)
  • Antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole)
  • Anti-epileptics (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • Blood thinners
  • Diuretics
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Grapefruit juice (should be avoided)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy:

  • Use only if clearly needed
  • May affect fetal growth

Breastfeeding:

  • Small amounts pass into breast milk
  • Generally safe at low doses

Driving and using machines

This medicine may cause:

  • Dizziness

Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

3. How to take Glazenta

Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Adults

  • Dose varies depending on condition
  • May range from 3 mg to 120 mg daily

Children

  • Dose based on body weight
  • Usually 0.25–1.5 mg/kg/day

Important instructions

  • Take with or without food
  • Preferably take in the morning
  • Do not stop suddenly—dose must be reduced gradually

If you take more than you should

Contact your doctor immediately. Treatment may include supportive care.

If you forget to take a dose

  • Take it as soon as you remember
  • Do not take a double dose

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Common or serious side effects

Hormonal effects:

  • Weight gain
  • Moon face (Cushingoid appearance)
  • Growth delay in children

Infections:

  • Increased risk of infections

Bone and muscle:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Muscle weakness

Mental health:

  • Mood changes
  • Anxiety, depression, insomnia

Eye problems:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma

Digestive system:

  • Stomach irritation
  • Ulcers

Skin:

  • Acne
  • Thinning of skin
  • Easy bruising

Serious side effects – seek immediate help

  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Severe mood or behavior changes
  • Vision problems
  • Signs of infection (fever, chills)

Withdrawal symptoms

If stopped suddenly:

  • Weakness
  • Joint pain
  • Fever
  • Weight loss

  • Store below 30°C
  • Protect from light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children
