1. What GestaPink is and what it is used for

GestaPink contains progesterone, a natural female hormone.

It is used for:

  • Treatment of secondary amenorrhoea (absence of menstrual periods) in women with normal estrogen levels

2. What you need to know before you take GestaPink

Do not take GestaPink if you:

  • Are allergic to progesterone or any of the other ingredients
  • Have severe liver disease
  • Have or have had breast cancer
  • Have blood clots (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) or a history of these
  • Have had stroke or heart attack
  • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Are pregnant

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have:

  • High blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol
  • Obesity or smoking habit
  • History of blood clots
  • Liver or kidney problems
  • Depression

Stop treatment immediately and seek medical help if you notice:

  • Sudden chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Severe headache or vision problems
  • Swelling or pain in the leg

Hormone therapy risks

Use of progesterone with estrogen may increase the risk of:

  • Blood clots
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease
  • Breast cancer

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

Other medicines and GestaPink

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • Anti-epileptics (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • Rifampicin or antibiotics
  • Ketoconazole
  • Cyclosporine
  • Diabetes medicines

These may affect how progesterone works.

GestaPink with food, drink and lifestyle

  • Take preferably before meals
  • Smoking may reduce effectiveness
  • Alcohol may increase progesterone levels

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Do not use during pregnancy
  • Avoid use during breastfeeding, as progesterone passes into breast milk

Driving and using machines

This medicine may cause:

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness

Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

Additional information

  • This medicine is not a contraceptive
  • Regular medical check-ups are recommended during treatment

3. How to take GestaPink

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Recommended dose:

  • 200–300 mg once daily
  • Taken in the evening at bedtime, preferably before meals

Method of administration:

  • Swallow the tablet whole
  • Do not crush, chew, or break

If you forget to take a dose:

  • Take it as soon as you remember
  • If close to the next dose, skip the missed dose
  • Do not take a double dose

If you take more than you should:

Symptoms may include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Mood changes

Contact your doctor immediately.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Headache
  • Irregular periods
  • Absence of menstruation

Uncommon:

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Breast tenderness
  • Vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
  • Acne or itching

Rare:

  • Nausea

Very rare:

  • Depression
  • Skin discoloration (chloasma)
  • Allergic reactions (urticaria)

Serious side effects (seek immediate medical help):

  • Blood clots
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)

5. How to store GestaPink

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Store below 25°C
  • Protect from light and moisture
  • Do not use after the expiry date

  • Active substance: Progesterone 200 mg or 300 mg
  • Other ingredients: Excipients, Titanium dioxide
